Battery Point is a historical maritime village that is now home to Hobart’s most premium real estate and is located immediately south of Hobart City, just a moment away from Salamanca and the Hobart waterfront. Charming 19th century sandstone and weatherboard cottage line the tiny lanes and quaint streets of Battery Point. Most cottages have been internally renovated to balance modern chic with old world charm.
Originally settled in 1804, the suburbs name is a reminder of the 1818 gun battery that stood to protect the town from nautical threats on the site of today’s Princes Park, known affectionately by locals at the ‘boat park’. Whilst the guns were used to fire ceremonial salutes, fortunately they were never needed in defence.
Hampden Road is the main area of Battery Point, home to some of the area’s best cafes as well as art and gift stores and Jackman & McRoss, an artisan bakery with an amazing selection of bread, pastries, delectable pies and tarts.
Battery Point is a fashionable suburb in which to live and directly accesses Salamanca Place by climbing the colonial era Kelly’s steps. Salamanca Place offers a wide range of amenities and is the home of Hobart’s nightlife with restaurants, bars and music venues in abundance.
